The Mission

The main purpose of the project is to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Haldimand Norfolk Women’s Services (HNWS) and to raise public awareness of the need for their services and to educate about the services that they provide. The artists are to act as interpreters and use their window/shadow box as a medium to tell a story to the public about domestic violence as a community issue and a rural phenomenon.

The Project

The exhibition “Outside, Looking In” is a collection of 25 voices that seek to speak to the public about the issue of domestic violence and its continued existence in the rural communities of Haldimand and Norfolk. Working within the confines of a battered and weathered old window attached to a backing box, participants from a diverse range of practices, demographics, age groups and gender will act as visual interpreters to bring other voices into the discussion of domestic violence so that the issue does not remain silent.
